Breeding Rules

  • I abide by real genetics very strictly.

  • Animals that have REAL parents will have (r) following the name, models will have (m).

  • I'm not fussy about the "age rule". Our animals "age" just like the real thing every year, but their photos are of them at one certain age.

  • Ages for breeding should be as follows:

  •     Horses: stallions at least 2 years- mares at least 3 years.

  •     Cattle: bulls at least 2 years old- cows at least 3 years.

  •     Antlered and horned animals: males at least 1.5 years- females at least 1.5 years.

  • For outside parents, please include at least a 3 generation pedigree for our breeding records. (4-5 gens if models are used for the first 3.)

  • Picture of offspring (and/or other parent) is required for breeding records and/or offspring classes - jpg format required. Size: 400 pixels on the largest side. Breedings to BSO's (breeding-stock-only) or ID's with no model body will be accepted on an individual basis– I would rather be able to look the animal visually.

  • I strive for realism in my breeding program, and therefore every effort is made to follow the basic rules of color genetics and for conformation. I will not accept breeding to or for ASO's (Animal-shaped objects- this includes all of the animals at BVF).

  • BVF retains the right to refuse any breeding(s) to any make or mold that is not conformationally correct for its intended breed or species.

  • BVF does not use the abbreviation of "BSO"-- I use "ID", "ID, Photo Only" or "Body Pending", I've heard the use of BSO as "breeding stock only" in the real horse world for Appaloosas and Paints and would really prefer to stay away from those non characteristics in my models offspring or parentage. In my mind; BSO means there is a possibility that the horse might not throw the color that the breed is supposed to be. Ex: Paint X Paint = BSO Paint, who's to say that BSO horse will produce any patterns?

  • If you have any questions as to the ability of two animals to produce a certain color or conformation type, please ask.

  • Models that have a photo, but have "(ID, photo only)" have either been sold or are now in the body box and I have retained the right to list them as an ID. They are not shown in any online shows.

  • "OSS" or "NAG" is not needed in front of your offspring name because it is associated with my studio, not the farm. “BVF” is the name of the farm itself and is up to you if you place it before or after your horses’ name, it is appreciated if used, but it’s not required.

  • Do not use Buckner Valley Farm names without my permission! If you need help with a name I would be happy to help you come up with something unique for your offspring.

  • If there is no pedigree listed after the animal’s info, it means it's pending. *I am working on getting new pedigrees for all my current models.*

  • E-mail breedings are free, Snail Mail breedings are $1.00 plus a SASE for the return of your pedigree paper if requested.
